Unnecessary foster care is, in fact, the most prevelent form of child abuse in Saskatchewan right now.

It is also a problem all over Canada.

In fact, there is a United Nations study showing that, compared to other industrialized countries, Canada has among the highest rates of children in the welfare and justice systems.

. Also, the United Nations Convention On The Rights Of A Child Article 9 (Separation from parents): Children have the right to live with their parent(s), unless it is bad for them. Children whose parents do not live together have the right to stay in contact with both parents, unless this might hurt the child.

Now, this doesn't state "might be" bad for them, it demands that there be some kind of proof involved before children are deprived of their parents. Anyone personally familiar with the kinds of excuses used by social workers knows that proof is never even mentioned in family court, an accusation made by a social worker is treated as a fact regardless of actual evidence.

Article 12 (Respect for the views of the child) states: "When adults are making decisions that affect children, children have the right to say what they think should happen and have their opinions taken into account.". Yet children are not even asked what they want in family court until they are 12. While it's true the judgement of a 5 year old isn't the same as a 13 year old, but when the parents are being accused of abuse, neglect, endangerment, etc., the fact that the 5 year old wants to be back with their parents should at least be taken as an obvious indication that the sytem may be making a terrible mistake.

Our family courts are placing far too much trust in the social work profession's illegitimate claim to some kind of borderline psychic expertise in judging a family with no evidence of any kind whatsoever.

Unaccountable, overempowered, predatory, arbitrary and capricious, ideologically driven child "protection" workers have to be removed from the system entirely and the system needs to be redesigned from the bottom up to ensure that social workers no longer control the family courts so that this ever growing tragedy never happens again.
