SAFETY TIPS FOR PICKING UP NEEDLES

If you'd rather not pick them up yourself, you can leave us a message or you can call the City Of Regina Needle Pick Up Line 777-7846 (Fire Department).

1.Pick them up near the base. The sharp may be bent under the cap or the cap may be cracked.
2.Don't put uncapped or cracked-capped syringes in you pocket. Carry them in your hand if you have to until you find something to put them in or a place to take them, like the police station or a nearby community center.
3.DON'T PUT THEM IN GARBAGES. Dumpster divers are placed in danger by syringes in garbage bins. Get a proper sharps container with a clearly marked biohazard logo. Coffee cans and margarine containers often get mixed up with other things and/or thrown in normal garbages. These are a biohazard, not normal garbage.
4.Make sure your kids know not to touch them. My kids spot for me on walkabouts but they don't touch them.
5.Sometimes, though very rarely, you may find one that is "loaded". Hard drugs are often sold in single doses, pre-loaded in a syringe. If you find one like this, Call the cops or the fire department to pick it up. If you are caught carrying it, even if you say you're on your way to bring it to them, you may be charged with possession of the drug in the syringe.
