Fred Phelps of Westborough Baptist Church.
The only true biblically Christian church left in North America.
Not familiar with him? godhatesfags.com is a pretty good introduction to the man, his church, and the worldview they have to convey.
What is really funny about the public's reaction to Westborough Baptist Church is that many of their critics still pretend to be Christian. Phelps and his congregation are the only real biblically true Christian church in north america.
Daniel Johnson.
That's right. Every other organized church has embraced the idea that parts of the Bible can be taken as useful bits and pieces and the rest ignored or taken as some kind of metaphor or allegory. Other churches have adapted to the modern age, decided that the bible is outdated, etc. The Bible says what it says in bold, clear language, I decided that it was wrong a long time ago, so would most people who actually read it.
s But I can at least respect Phelps because he doesn't call it the word of god on the one hand and then call parts of it metaphor and allegory or adaptable social context later...and for the record, if you listen closely, he doesn't actually tell people to hate...he tells people what Jesus said to do...rebuke thy neighbor, out of love tell them that God hates their lifestyle...that's not preaching hate, exactly, though the bible is a hateful book, it doesn't say to hate, it says to kill what god hates but not to actually hate because we are all not good enough to hate but god is....it's wrong, but it's not complicated.
I say it again. Phelps is the only genuine Christian preacher left in North America. All the rest have sold out to the message of doing what feels good or promoting patriotism. What scares me is that if more people start going to church for social reasons, the churches will regain the power they used to have and then they'll start reading the Bible again and it'll be back to the middle ages...that's why I love Phelps and his message, they should serve as a reminder of how savage and how recent the dark ages were, and why Christianity, with it's paper thin "love" wrapper, is an extremely dangerous ideology.
